Everything is still! I hear piercing quietness, and I walk with tranquillity sweeping it all aside with my feet.i

 I feel its crystals on my face, cold but pleasant! Every other moment, I look up inhaling deep fresh air! Thousands of bits of it glisten in the moonlight and I look forward roaming in the city roads! I can hear its crunching under my boots, reverbrating in my mind!!i 

                                                 Being late , I have to retun! I turn back!   i

Beautiful , it is! It's all white in front of me with my trace left behind!i

The next morning, everybody is out from the very beginning of the dawn clearing the pass ways! As the sun rises, it sparkles like thousands of diamonds !i

 Kids are counting down to be out!  They call each other. Now, it's just their  sound around playing with joy! Their fingers are numb with cold, but still they don't give up!i

After a while, in the midday, they withdraw to their homes with the wet coats and gloves smelling damp! Breathing my hands to get warm, I go straight towards the heater! I have a cup of hot tea, Then I feel my eyes getting heavy, and I doze off right there!!i 

As I feel heat on my face, I try to open my eyes gradually!i 

OOOOh, NOOOO!! It's melted away, so is my dream from my childhood!!!i

I watch out the window! It's snow falling down very gently!!i

Yes, it's winter! Let's welcome its coldness very warmly!!!i

As you know, it is a custom for Iranians to read Persian poetry at Yalda Night. Now, we are thinking about having an on-line debate poetry but in English! All of you can create your own works related to this occasion and send them on Thursday night using the idea section, because this is the only way you can take part in the debate, and I'm ready here to confirm them from 8 p.m.  They will be evaluated by Mr. Nagheli when he's back and the the best ones will be chosen. All of us are getting ready for the exams these days. These are some advices in order to be successful not only at school but also in your whole life

Plan while others are playing

Study while others are sleeping 

Decide while others are delaying

Prepare while others are daydreaming

Let's look  at other usages of prefer

d)    If you use prefer and rather than in the same sentence, you should use an infinitive before rather than and a bare infinitive,ie the base form of the verb after it

              e.g.          I prefer to stay home rather than go out       not  to go out

c)      If you use just than instead of rather than after prefer, you should use an infinitive both before and after than

e.g.        I prefer to eat home than to eat out

Prefer is  one of the  verbs that we frequently use in every day conversation; however, with different sentences you should use different forms

a) after prefer you can use either infinitive or gerund without any difference in meaning

e.g.    I prefer to continue my education in Iran

        or       I prefer continuing my education in Iran

b) if there is an object after prefer, you cannot use gerund. In that case you must use an infinitive

e.g.      I prefer you to instal the computer.   Not installing

c) when you prefer something to something, you should use gerund in both cases

e.g.    I prefer cycling to swimming

Recently, I read some new definitions for some words somewhere, and I'd like to share them with you

Atom bomb: An invention to end all inventions

Boss: Someone who is early when you are late and late when you are early

Cigarette: A pinch of tobacco rolled in paper with fire at one end & a fool at the other

Classic: A book which people praise, but do not read

Committee: Individuals who can do nothing individually and sit to decide that nothing can be done together

Conference room: A place where everybody talks, nobody listens & everybody disagrees later on

Criminal: A guy no different from the rest...Except that he got caught

Dictionary: A place where divorce comes before marriage

Divorve : Future tense of marriage

Doctor: A person who kills your ills by pills, and kills you with his bills

Etc: A sign to make others believe that you know more than you actually do

Experience: The name men give to their mistakes

Lecture: An art of transferring information from the notes of the lecturer to the notes of the students without passing through the minds of either

Miser: A person who lives poor so that he can die rich

Office: A place where you can relax after your home life

Pessimist: A person who says that O is the last letter in zerO, instead of the first letter in word Opportunity

Rumor: News that travel at the speed of sound

Smile: A curve that can set a lot of things straight

Tears: The hydraulic force by which masculine power is defeated by feminine power

       After "make" a bare infinitive, ie the base form of the verb is used   

He made the students do their homework

My father made me wash the car

Be careful! This is not always the case!    When make is used in passive form, an infinitive should be followed by it 

                         The students were made to attend the class

The children were made to clean up their room

You can win (in) a game, a race, a battle, an argument etc, and you can win a prize, money etc

You can beat a person that you are playing/arguing/fighting etc against

e.g. : My friend usually wins when we play poker

e.g. : My friend beat me at poker the first time we played

Both verbs are irregular

beat - beat - beaten                                     win - won - won

Saying "0" in numbers

Depending on the context, we can pronounce zero in different ways

          0-2  in football matches : Two nil

   in tennis: Thirty love    30-0 

in phone numbers: 6047721  six oh four

in a number: 0.4    nought point four / zero point four

in temperature:   0 C     zero degrees

English vowels:   a-e-i-o-u

Ther are two words in English language that have all five vowels in order

a) Abstemious which means: not taking much food or drink; moderate

ex: He is a very abstemious person, you can never see him feeling no pain

b) Facetious Which means intended to be amusing, often inappropriately

ex: she kept intrupting our discussion with facetious remarks, and we lost the topic about which we were speaking. 

Near can be used as a preposition. Near to is also possible with the same meaning, but less common

e.g. : We live near (to) the station

I put my bag down near (to) the door

she was near (to) despair

Near (to) can be followed by an -ing form

e.g. : I came very near (to) hitting him

These two words have the same pronunciation

The adjective principal means :main, most important

e.g.: What's your principal reason for wanting to be a doctor

The noun principal means : headmistress, usually in Britain, of a school for adults

e.g. : If you want to leave early you'll have to ask the principal

A principle is a scientific law or a moral rule

e.g. : Newton discovered the principle of universal gravitation

In reply to a negative question, YES suggests a positive verb, and NO suggests a negative verb

Pay attention to the following examples

Haven't you written to Mary? Yes ( I have written to her) l

Haven't you told her about us ? No ( I haven't told her about us ) l

Didn't the postman come this morning ? Yes, he did

Didn't he bring anything for me? No, he didn't

Thanks is more informal than Thank you

Common expressions are : Thank you    NOT  Thanks you

Thank you very much NOT Thanks you very much BUT Thanks very much

Thanks alot       NOT   Thank you alot

Thank God    NOT   Thanks God
